Works from 2011 until present day are in the process of being added to this new website. In the meantime, here is a preview of those series.
The re-emergence of strong chromatic colours began in 2016 with the lyrical, linear wall constructions of the "Wrap" series. That approach, to the surface, continues to this day as witnessed with the "Crossings" series with its overlapping lyrical lines filling the ground as they wind towards the four edges. The centre of those compositions are visually held together by a single straight line that is set in opposition to the lyrical lines.
The open field that defined the wall constructions, prior to 2023, now began to examine the complexity of a denser lyrical field. Once again, multiple colours were brought together to create "Crossings Unfolding" offering a more complex horizontal composition. The single vertical line of the "Crossings" series was replaced by several straight lines of varying lengths, widths and strong colours. The kaleidoscope of colours continues my interest in Chromatic formalism.
2017, with the ending of the lyrical "Wrap" series, saw a return to the use of flat planes to support the raised, flat, three dimensional lines. The coloured grounds that the linear elements interacted with were not only flat but irregular. The "Crossings" series brought about the eventual amalgamation of eccentric forms in combination of strong colours and line.
The initial tension of a singular line moving across a large open field evolved into several linear elements working in tandem to define the final composition. This period witnessed the evolution of several series that offered different ways in which line and colour brought the final composition together.
By 2019, the compositions of only 2 or 3 colours exploded to as many as 7 different colours that presented a greater chromatic collection of colours that defined the final composition.
The "Wrap" series began early in 2016, introducing strong chromatic colours using the industrial powder coating process. 2016 witnessed the focus on lyrical linear elements that reached out and challenged the viewers physical space. At times, the weaving and interlocking lines formed a compressed centre that occasionally reached out into the viewer's space only to return.
As the "Wrap" series developed, the focus of a tight core expanded to create sculptures with an open centre and an emphasis on the perimeter. Multiple colours and opposing linear elements were brought together to form different movements within the same sculpture. The "Wrap" series can be characterized by a sense of ordered chaos formed by overlapping and interlocking linear elements
2011 ushered in my third distinct work period with the re-examination of abstraction begun with the "Avanti" series. The "Avanti" and "Linear Composition" series, over this period, focused on shallow depths of field that were either convex or concave.
The ensuing sculptures made use of straight and lyrical lines to define the composition. Pattern, whether regular or irregular, defined a number of wall dependent sculptures. Colour re-emerged during this period, tonally, using liquid patinas to alter the colouration of the tin and copper surfaces.
During the first period the work fell within the abstract tradition. That way of examining work began as early as 1970 until early 1987.
Between 1987 and 2010, the studio activity made use of images from everyday life to create short narratives.
In 2011, I began to re-examine abstraction in a new way. That renewed interest in furthering the abstract approach to my studio activity continues to this day.
